Today the Detroit Pistons will be announcing that they are firing head coach Flip Saunders (2 pm press conference). Flip has been the coach of the Pistons for the last three years and has a record of 206-91 at the helm. Winning 44% of your games as a coach is impressive, and reaching the Eastern Conference Finals three years in a row is no small feat either. But coming up short in all three seasons has led to Joe Dumars seeking a new direction for his team.
Flip Saunders playoff troubles are well known as he was the coach of the T Wolves and was bounced out of the 1st round seven of the eight times they went to the post season. But can he really be blamed for the Pistons failure to win another title? Is it his fault that injuries plagued his team throughout the playoffs? Playing with your best player fighting injury is tough for any team let alone having both Billups and then Hamilton getting injured. Also with Rasheed Wallace playing as inconsistent as ever what is to be expected. Can anyone motivate Sheed? doubtful. They can always replace him with Avery Johnson he does well in the playoffs.....
